Some Science Take-aways :D

--> What would happen if there were no photosynthesis?

  • The provision of oxygen by the trees would be lost and thus leads into the increasing of global warming as poison accumulates in the atmosphere. Therefore, the FOOD CYCLE would be disturbed as chain starts with plants as the producers as they produce glucose through photosynthesis for the continuation of the chain.

--> Photosynthesis is important for plants only?

  • No. As stated in the previous post, photosynthesis is carried out to provide us with air for breathing hence allows us to survive. Therefore, photosynthesis is not only important for plants but for all living things as living things requires oxygen to survive thus if there isn't sufficient plants, there'll be lesser photosynthesis carried out and results in us unable to survive.

--> A plant need its own food to function. It can't really make its own food at night. Beyond a few hours of darkness, can a plant stay alive without light?

  • Yes. A plant deprived of sunlight can survive indefinitely under artificial lighting. The longest a plant can survive without any light at all is about a week or 6 months, but it depends on the species of the plant and the temperature of the environment. So, the answer to this question varies widely.
